
Utica University Students Present Research at 2024 CNY LSAMP Alliance Symposium

This annual symposium brings together LSAMP students for networking and exchange of thought.

Congratulations to three Utica University students who recently presented their independent research at the 2024 Central New York LSAMP Alliance Symposium held at Ithaca College.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), is a grant-funded prestigious program through the National Science Foundation that aims to uplift and support underrepresented students in the STEM field.

This annual symposium brings together LSAMP students for networking and exchange of thought. Participants also hear from professionals across various STEM fields about their lived experiences through panels and presentations, and have an opportunity to learn about graduate school pathways.
This year's Utica University participants were:
- Belier Javier, Cybersecurity, B.S. & Computer Science, B.S. | "Anomaly Detection on Cloud-Based Network Traffic: A Supervised Ensemble Learning Approach" – Supervised by Dr. Unnati Shah, Assistant Professor of Computer Science
- Brian Kusi, Cybersecurity, B.S. | "Leveraging AI for Enhanced Phishing Detection" – Supervised by Dr. Leslie Corbo, Director of the B.S. Cybersecurity Program & Associate Professor of Cybersecurity
- Jallen Wright, Chemistry, B.S. | "Fungal Secondary Metabolites: Analysis of Cyclic Depsipeptides in the Family Cordycipitaceae" – Supervised by Dr. Richard Tehan, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry

The CNY LSAMP Alliance (CNYLA) is a coalition of students, faculty, and staff committed to increasing diverse representation in STEM fields. Members include Utica University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Ithaca College, SUNY Cortland, SUNY ESF, Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Herkimer County Community College.
