Nursing students collect food & personal hygiene products to help St. Petersburg charities
With campus closed due to COVID-19, students were forced to explore virtual options for community service and member engagement.
In the face of COVID-19, the Utica College Student Nursing Association wanted to give back to the homeless, jobless and immunocompromised residents of Tampa Bay who face extreme risk during the pandemic.
With campus closed, students were forced to explore virtual options for community service and member engagement, which led them to develop an Amazon account for their organization, along with a curated wish list of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products to be donated to two local non-profit organizations - St. Petersburg Free Clinic - a multi-service, independent, not-for-profit human services agency providing community members with temporary emergency assistance with food, shelter and health care, and EPIC's Francis House - providing services to people impacted by HIV and AIDS throughout Tampa Bay.
In all, students collected and assembled 112 tote bags filled with donated food and 74 tote bags of personal care products, making it their most successful drive to date.
