BACHELOR OF SCIENCE | ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM

Utica University’s major in nursing prepares students to become effective acute care nurses, providing expert, compassionate care across a variety of settings, including maternity, critical care, emergency, and operating room environments. Through a combination of didactic instruction, lab exercises, and guided clinical placements, nursing students gain the knowledge, skill, and confidence to pursue a highly rewarding and impactful career in one of America’s fastest-growing professions.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Utica University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

A recognized leader in nursing education, Utica’s nursing program is taught by experienced practitioners representing multiple areas of medical practice – dedicated faculty who take an interest in your success. Students benefit from 300 hours of experience in sophisticated SIM labs on campus and as much as 500 hours of clinical placements, including an 84-hour guided transitional experience as part of their capstone project.

Skills You'll Gain Through This Program

Nursing students start with foundational learning in microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as general education in the arts and sciences. Diagnostic and patient care skills are developed through intensive lab-based instruction, providing a solid base of knowledge that students can build upon during their guided clinical experiences. Clinical placements are available to students at Utica’s new Wynn Hospital and other facilities, with opportunities for paid part-time employment as nursing assistants while they study.

The quality of Utica’s nursing program is evident in our NCLEX pass rates that consistently rank among the highest in New York State: 96% in 2025.

Facilities and Technologies

Utica University maintains several full-featured nursing labs on its main campus, including recently upgraded SIM labs. Students gain valuable experience working with industry-standard technologies, including smart feeding pumps, IVs, lifting equipment – essential tools currently in use in hospitals across the country.

More than 90% of nursing students secure career-track positions shortly after graduation. Prior to graduation, Utica nursing majors are often actively recruited by local and regional medical facilities, seeking to meet the growing demand for nursing staff with highly qualified candidates. Yes, they do. The program's NCLEX pass rate in 2024 was 92.1%. Our pass rate ranks consistently among the highest in New York state.
