In their own words: Jenn Strife '13
"...my experiences in the UC education program taught me a multitude of teaching strategies I’m currently using, including planning effective lessons and differentiating instruction for my students."
Jenn Strife '13 discusses, in her own words, how her time as an English major at Utica College prepared her for graduate school.
"Since graduating from Utica College, I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to begin my Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry at the University of Tennessee, and recently got married! I am currently in my second year of the program, teaching two sections of freshmen composition, writing my thesis, and taking poetry workshops.
My time as an English major at Utica College absolutely prepared me to continue my studies as a master’s student. I’m so grateful that in addition to studying English and minoring in creative writing, I also completed the education program and got certified in English to teach grades 7-12.
Although I’m not teaching middle or high school now, my experiences in the UC education program taught me a multitude of teaching strategies I’m currently using, including planning effective lessons and differentiating instruction for my students. My education certification has allowed me to work as a writing and reading tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center the past two summers and during my breaks from school."
