Six Weeks to College Success
In the life of a new college student, the first six weeks are a crucial time for establishing connections, building good habits, and getting involved on campus.
With that in mind, Utica College’s Success in Six program is designed to help first-year students set the groundwork for a successful college experience. Through a variety of activities, events, and workshops, Success in Six provides students with meaningful opportunities to get involved at UC—and learn to manage the obstacles that can get in the way of earning a degree.
The program was developed by the division of Student Affairs and the Center for Student Success.
“Student retention and success are important priorities of the College,” says Bethany Samuels, Associate Director of Student Success. “We have been able to galvanize staff and faculty to focus on providing students with many opportunities to learn how to be successful in college.”
And while the Success in Six name is new, many of these opportunities, says Samuels, have been provided by the College for years.
“After looking at the variety of programs and events happening on campus, The Success in Six schedule formed organically and synergies were developed.”
Some program highlights: the third annual Unity Walk on September 4, Squirrel Day on September 13, and the Volunteer Fair on September 18.
Says Samuels: “We are excited for students to be immersed in the Utica College community and to celebrate diversity, awareness, and inclusion through a variety of academic and social events.”
